#TheStruggleIsReal

Or at least as real as I'm willing to bitch about.

Basically, it works like this:

You grow up learning to be limitless.

Every adult implores you to explore your passions,

and you grow up thinking that anything is possible.

You grow older,

and realize that you aren't an athlete,

or a history buff,

or whatever you suck at.

You keep growing up,

and you realize something:

You can't possibly be limitless.

The entire Earth is built around limits,

like Calculus.

You go along this line,

growing exponentially old,

but the limit exists.

And no matter how hard you push,

no matter how much value you pile onto yourself,

there's a point in life that you can't pass.

And then you keep growing up,

and you get funneled into mass tests where you're appraised as a commodity.

You score numbers on these tests and someone reads them,

feigning interest,

and you're told by this person what you're good at.

They tell you,

a child that they have never met,

what career you'll have,

which subjects you'll excel at,

etc.

But they never tell you what your passion will be,

and they never tell you who you'll idolize.

They won't tell you that you'll be a middle-class white boy that loves rap,

or a gay male that just wants to treat a woman to a nice night out.

They don't tell you that you'll change your mind on EVERYTHING.

That you'll grow up wanting to be a doctor,

then a lawyer,

then a doctor,

and an artist,

and actor,

and musician,

and psychologist,

and all of the above.

But you're forced to listen to them.

Because that's "life".

Or what people seem to think it is.

...................

Of course, that isn't life.

It's just what you're told it is.

Life is way, way beyond that.

But nobody will ever tell you that.

You have to actively seek out interests,

passions,

loves.

You have to force yourself to audition for a show,

to audition for drumline,

to sing,

to revel in something that you just might like,

even if it isn't recommended by the suits.

You have to be willing to recognize that the system is flawed,

that,

if you listen to the adults,

you lose.

You lose literally everything that you once believed in.

You lose that limitless belief.

You lose the idea of freedom,

the idea of choice.

You look up, finding yourself somewhere you don't recognize.

You lose the feeling of creation that you once had.

You go over to your childhood friend's house,

but the magic isn't there.

The backyard isn't a secret agent's hideout.

It's grass,

and dirt,

and test scores.

And your entire worth as a student is gauged by a 32,

and a 1960,

and a 4.0,

and a collection of classes.

And you stop, and finally, in the fucking depth of summer, realize something.

.................................

You look back at your life,

barely lived,

with no risks,

and no parties,

or mistakes.

You hate what you see,

but love your success.

And you come to terms with the idea that, no,

you aren't what your grades say.

You're so much more.

And you're told in college that you don't have to worry about being a test score,

or having to let go of things you love to fit in a class third tri.

But you don't believe that,

because that's how high school was supposed to be.

And you are so fucking terrified.

You're scared of leaving,

and being torn between passion and success,

like always,

and you're terrified of five-figure debt,

which is unavoidable.

.........................................

Going back to the "being more than your schooling".

You realize that, even though you took little risk,

nobody else did.

You were all collectively fucked by adults.

Because leaving no child behind just holds others back.

So you stop crying about the lack of parties,

and wild nights,

like your parents talked about.

You look back and love thirteen shows,

and ten years of music,

and learning to tap,

and singing,

and kissing,

and loving,

and, of course, being a sassy bitch.

Because this is still my blog, sluts.

But you stop crying and you start thinking.

About how you can fight this notion of selection,

of choosing this or that.

You realize that, and I apologize in advance for this,

your family's opinions literally mean jack shit.

Because maybe you aren't a doctor,

or a lawyer,

or whatever.

Maybe you don't know what you are.

And you have time.

We all have time.

...........................................

I'm going to end this stream of consciousness with this:

I'm scared shitless.

I've been lied to about life,

forever,

and that's ok.

Because,

even if I can't be anything I want,

I can be anything I love.

So no, I'm not limitless.

As my friend's father said,

I lack a rock-climber's body.

(They're thin, and I am meaty.)

But I don't have limits.

Does that make sense?

Nope.

But neither does life,

so fuck you.

I'm going to go do what I love,

and have fun doing it,

and somehow make money to live.

One step at a time.

If this blog was a baby, it would be so dead right now.

Hi, my name is Sam, and you may know me as the person who used to have a pretty OK blog but then stopped posting because he can't remember ever.

But hey, it's whatever.

I guess it's time for an update/rant/post:

I graduated, so that.

I watched as a bunch of my classmates walked across a makeshift stage to receive an empty folder that would later contain a diploma for liability reasons.

You know, the usual graduation stuff.

I spoke at Baccalaureate, which is just graduation church or something.

And my speech was the best I've ever given, because I let go and wrote something legitimately personal.

AND GUESS WHAT, IT OFFENDED PEOPLE.

It actually wasn't even offensive at all though.

It was titled "Faith: The Final Frontier"

It was about faith, obviously.

It circulated around the idea that no matter what faith we have, we all share the common idea of faith.

I mentioned how some people don't believe in God, but that they have faith in themselves or an idea.

It was tastefully done, with a very personal spin.

That thing was my baby. Like, I nursed it and everything. It was pretty weird.

My mom actually walked into the room while this was happening, and was all like

"Sam, why are you nursing the computer?!"

And I was like

"OMG MOM YOU DON'T EVEN UNDERSTAND MY CREATIVE PROCESS"

But regardless of my creative process, that shit was my shit.

And do you know what happened right after I gave the speech?

"NO SAM OMG PLEASE TELL US"

OK, I'll tell you guys!

A girl, who will remain nameless, approached me.

She said

"I didn't like your speech. I didn't agree with it."

COOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

SOOOOOO COOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLL

Guess what?

I honestly don't give a flying fuck what you think about my speech.

Seriously though.

Why would you ever do that?

Saying that you don't agree with my speech is basically saying that you don't believe that anyone's faith can matter, because that's what I talked about.

And, additionally, you don't just say that shit to people.

It was a big night for a lot of us, especially those who went on stage to speak in the service.

So I really just don't understand why you would take any negativity backstage to someone who's just trying to make good with something outside of their comfort zone.

Seriously, fuck you.

If any of you reading this have ever gone directly up to someone after they put their beliefs on the table, expressing a pure and honest idea that they live by, and told them that you didn't like what they said because you think it's wrong,

APOLOGIZE.

It's just a dick move.

/rant

note: Apparently I do give a flying fuck, because I wrote a superfluous rant about it. Oh well.

update:

Lately, I've been a mix of busy and mind-crushingly bored.

I'm DJing grad parties now, and making a pretty good business from it.

I'm trying to wrangle financial aid, and money in general. I'm making an utterly mediocre business of it.

But my debt should be reasonable.

And by reasonable, I mean that I'll only have several thousand dollars of debt accumulated after a single year of schooling but HEY, THAT'S LIFE. WELCOME TO AMERICA, WHERE INFLATION INFLATES AND EMPLOYEE WAGES STAGNATE IN A POOL OF CAPITALIST FILTH. ALSO, A PLACE WHERE WORKPLACE EFFORT HAS COLLECTIVELY INCREASED OVER THE LAST TEN YEARS, WHILE MEDIAN EMPLOYEE WAGES REMAIN THE SAME.

an analysis of modern lyrics 1

An Analysis of Modern Lyrics:
PART ONE

1. Beez in the Trap - Nicki Minaj ft. 2 Chainz

"Damn damn, what they say about me?
I Don't know, man. F*ckers on your biscuit.
If I get hit, swingin' on that big bitch,
I don't know, man, I'm shittin' on your whole life."

Obviously, Nicki's haters keep insulting her biscuits, and she's trying to figure out what they're saying by talking to one of her 54378978979345 personalities. Duh:

taken from Nicki's iPhone

2. Scream - Usher

"Now relax and get on your back
If you wanna scream yeah
Let me know and I'll take you there
Get you goin' like ooh baby baby, ooh baby baby
Ooh baby baby, ooh baby
If you want it done right
Hope you're ready to go all night"

..........

sweet baby jesus.

3. All You - The Cataracs ft. Kaskade and Waka Flocka

"If I want it, Imma get it.
Send the waitress over,
Quit that boozy shit, girl.
B-Bend that ass over.
Bend that ass over.
B-B-Bend that ass over."

Hey man, I have to agree with Mr. Flocka Flame here. No bitch of mine is going to act boozy when she has a perfectly good ass to swing around the club like a booty-powered helicopter.

This, my friends, is the face of a sage man:

UPDATE:

It's been too long, Blog! I haven't seen you in ages!

Well, I suppose I should just spout miscellaneous facts in hopes to get all of you up to speed. Here goes:

1. I'm about lead basically everything next year, which means I'll need to be nice to people, which means I'll probably need a prescription to Prozac. So....somebody get on that.

2. I've been cooking a lot lately because I like food and needed a hobby that wasn't hating republican candidates. I'll post recipes and whatnot on here because, well, I can.

3. In all honesty not a whole lot has been going on. OH except I saw Magic Mike the other day.....definitely needed more men in assless chaps.

this was shockingly lacking.

democracy, not bigotry.

there are few things that truly make me feel sick to my stomach.

the other is the seemingly inevitable turn towards conservative bigotry and intolerance of differing cultures/ideals in american society.

i was recently confronted with this photograph on the virtual planes of facebookland:

this is one of those things where i shouldn't even have to explain the flaws in the above abomination of modern society.

1. america was built on the foundation of accepting immigrants. examples: pilgrims, religious refugees, our ancestors, etc.

2. "Language : English!"
...

3. the constitution =/= culture.
culture is actually one of the many things that whoever penned this list is gratuitously lacking. culture is acceptance. the ability to let in the extravagant and accept that which you do not let in - THAT is culture. not this conservative bullshit mumbo-jumbo about hating immigrants and closing borders and speaking english. culture is something that changes a person; it's something that reignites patriotic passion while taking logical political steps forward. culture is culture. it isn't bigotry, or ignorance, or anything even similar to the aforementioned attributes. culture is what america needs, what the youth needs, and what the world needs.

4. "No Freebies To : Non-Citizens!".
...just stop. you've stopped making logical points,
you've lost any validity that you thought you had.
you're done.
you lose the argument.

it's an unfortunate, heartbreaking thing, the destruction of american ideals. the sheer, tyrannical truth of the matter is astounding and terrible: if we don't change, we're going to perish. as a nation. as a people. as society and as man.

we need culture.
we need acceptance.
and we need it now.

gay sex =/= banging a hyena.

RICK SANTORUM ISN'T FIT TO TONGUE-PUNCH SATAN'S SALTY POOP-SLINGER, MUCH LESS RUN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

the above text is cold, hard fact based on common f*cking sense.

America is an interesting place; it's beautiful and diverse, and i love living here. but sometimes, damn it, people can't open their eyes to the issues at hand.

FUN FACT #1

Rick Santorum describes himself as "morally pure".

...

seriously. i kid you not. this man actually believes himself to be the example of what man should be. that right there is enough of a reason not to support him. the last thing America needs is a pretentious dick-wibbler that holds himself socially above the people he would govern. that's just stupid. he's like michelle bachman with a dick!

FUN FACT #2

Rick Santorum is a racist bastard. he was, truthfully, quoted as saying the following:

"i don't want to make black peoples' lives better by giving them someone else's money."

i honestly don't even have to say anything about why this is wrong.

a letter:

dear mr. santorum,

white people, believe it or not, make up 38% of the population that is currently receiving welfare, while the african-american community only makes up 37%. i appreciate your attempt to revive the bigotry of the pre-civil-rights-movement America, but i don't think that now is the time to try to rekindle those ideals.

                                                                                                          Sincerely,
                                                                                                                educated america.

FUN FACT #3

he is and will always be, someone who is incapable of keeping up with the trends of acceptance in modern society.

Santorum, widely known as the "most anti-gay candidate", evidently hates gay people. he's actually been quoted comparing homosexual acts to bestiality, putting the two acts on the same moral level.

gay sex =/= having sex with a hyena.
(believe it or not)

society has, thankfully, taken a turn towards acceptance of homosexuals. most people recognize the rights of same-sex couples joined in a civil union, and many people support gay citizens because they are, in fact, sentient people.

apparently rick santorum has been living in a cave for the past few years......that, or the south.

i think that, given the information above, most people will be able to see that a conservative radical is probably a poor choice for a leader in the 21st century. i don't know if you understand this, but prejudice is a terrible thing. one thing we do not need in society is a turn towards theocracy, the founding fathers actually frowned upon that. the bible does not govern america, nor should it ever. that's why we have the separation of church and state....and the bill of rights....and "majority rule, minority right".....and a constitution.....and a democracy.

additional fun fact: most of the bible is actually not comprised of the teachings of jesus christ so if you want to worship him instead of the damned men that wrote leviticus that'd be swell....and also it's be what christianity intended for you to do.

The End.

so far, in class...

so far, in class, i have learned about many fascinating things, and partaken in the highest level of intellectual discussion. examples:

CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAW:
we talked about statutory rape for literally hours, and came to a conclusion that michigan's laws are far too strict and basically all politicians needs to have sex to calm down.

AP CALCULUS:
actual work, nothing fun to report. though t.ratch now has a singing cow toy that parades about the class room on fridays.

FRENCH III/IV:
no new material in terms of the language, but so far we've had cupcakes and birthday cake, and started watching a really good movie about world war one.

PERCUSSION:
music-related things. the most amazing-ever-super-cool-oh-my-god solo has surfaced on marimba, with any luck i'll be able to post a video.

AP-PREP ENGLISH:
this class can very easily be summed up in three eloquent words:

"KILL ME NOW."

though i do love Edgar Allan Poe's works. that's the only plus side. also modernism.

so there's a basic synopsis of school, through the eyes of a snazzy youth.

thoughts on The Human Centipede 2 : Full Sequence.

CINEMATIC GOLD.

truly a beautiful allegory of current events and the taboos of society.

...

ok that's a bullsh*t lie.

i don't think i've ever been more disturbed by a horror movie before, nor have i ever seen a scary movie cause my friends to scream and almost throw up like that.

it was magical.

the best part was that it was all in black and white, except for the poop.

Tom Six: "guys, we need to bring some class to this movie."

Producer: "we should make it black and white! ALL the horror classics are in black and white!"

Tom Six: "YES. but what can we emphasize with color? i'd like there to be color at some parts to bring a more dramatic feel to the movie."

Producer: "how about poop?"

Tom Six: "YES."

#classy.

late post.

the title is relatively self-explanatory, but for those of you who are dull:

it's been awhile.

so yea.

college costs too much.

and financial aid is too complicated.

and i have less than a year to start researching and applying and whatever the hell.

basically, in sam-time*, there is next to no time to do all this.

UGH.

*sam-time is an expression used to easily convey my neurosis. i, like most people who constantly dread the coming of the future and eventual loss of their intellectual upper-hand, require an abnormally high amount of time to plan every small detail of my education. ta-da.

Sunday, October 16, 2011

so i'm kind of psychic and it's freaking me out a little.

ok so i have known for a while that i'm...."unique".

basically because i like eating cheetos on my PB&J sandwiches and enjoy playing the xylophone over talking to women.

well, that last part is because i like boys, but regardless.

i've been having weird-ass dreams lately, but they don't seem weird per somnium.

in my dreams i'm just doing normal things, you know, nothing crazy.

but then, usually a few days / a week after the dream, i do what i did in my dream in real life, exactly how i dreamed it.

examples:
  1. i dreamt that i was sitting in the auditorium during improv, and i was sitting audience-left. i was facing the crowd (pit area) and someone said something onstage and everyone laughed, but i didn't find it funny. the person was playing an improv game that i was unfamiliar with, and it involved sitting down center stage. in real life, three days later, a new game was introduced at improv titled "the bench game", and for those of you who know what that game is, you'll understand the sitting center stage part. the person onstage was acting bizarre, fishing for laughter, and everyone was laughing but me. i was sitting audience left.
  2. a week ago, i dreamt that i was sitting in an armchair, wrapped in a blanket, reading a play that had weirdly written dialogue. it was slow reading, and i was skipping sections. my dog walked by the chair, and whined at me. in real life, basically the exact same shit happened. i was in an armchair, wrapped in a blanket, reading the crucible. i was skipping the asides written by the author. it was slow reading.
and i know that these aren't super crazy examples and i'm not blowing any minds, but there have been other incidents where the same thing happened. i have never had dreams so weirdly specific before, nor have i ever had every detail be almost exact the same in real life.

it's freaking me out a little.

Monday, October 10, 2011

the only living being i will ever need ever, ergo, the post about my dog.

...

i guess we both have those days.

i love my dog.

reasons why:
1.) he will never judge my taste in music
2.) he doesn't care if i dress nicely
3.) he can't talk, and if he did it would only be nice
4.) he has floppy ears
5.) he has more personality than most of my peers
6.) he's cuter than 90+% of humans.
7.) he makes noises like this:

aaaaaauuuuuuuuauauoooooiuuueeaaaaaauoooeeoooaaaaaoooooouuuu!!!!

personally, i'd rather hear that than human-speak.

mornings: a poem

O morn
Thy filled with Scorn
You fight my joy!
Pulling me into the fog with
Your Sleep

O morn
Thy are a BUTTCAKE
With an UGLY FACE
and a
FAT ASS.

O morn!

go f*cking die.

the human centipede 2 : full sequence

you have no idea how excited i am to see this movie.

it's been 100% guaranteed to be more disturbing and graphic than the original.

...which was pretty f*cked up already.

so i suppose that isn't really a GOOD thing.

however:

i get to prove my horror movie manhood with this franchise.

...who want's to have a movie night? :)

if i ever created dubstep

it would go a little something like this:

bum bum bum bum tsss bum bum bum BUM

x2

then some of this:

bum bwee dum bwee doo bwee um bwee

and repeat that a bit.

THEN THE DROP. WHICH GOES LIKE THIS:

BUUMMMMmmmmmmm....

....doooOOOOOOOOOOO

SKREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

BUM BWIGGA BWIGGA BWIGGA BWUGGA BOOM BOOM BOOM

and then repeat that for about 5 minutes.

maybe i'd end it with a good, hearty, nostalgic uber drop like:

IT'S-A ME! MARIOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooo.......

yea.

quick update

honestly, i forgot about my blog. whoops.

oh well.

update on my current life:

  • i still hate spiders.
  • i'm in a play about the holocaust
  • i'm rocking that xylophone like the thug i am.
  • i have a f*ckload of homework every night.

that's basically it.

also:

A QUICK PSA:

please do not make out in the hallway.

there i am, eagerly high-stepping my way down to my calc class when i hear an ungodly sound.

a slurping sound.

a sickeningly wet slurping.

i turn my head, terrified of what i was about to discover.

was it and octopus, readying an attack?

perhaps a mutant puma, preparing to punce on an innocent freshman?

NOPE.

TWO FILTHY CHILDREN LICKING EACH OTHERS' TONGUES AND ENJOYING EVERY REVOLTING MINUTE OF IT.

people.

honestly.

at 9:50a.m. i am not even awake yet, much less in dire need of a good face-sucking.

like seriously.

what the hell.

i can hear you from 8 feet away.

at least work on your technique or something.
